Book List

Since I know many of us are always looking for a good book to read, I decided to compile a list based off of my favorite books and those left in comments by my readers. Here are some great books to check out and provide a little break from reality.

Here’s a list of my all time favorite books in no particular order:

Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
There are 6 books so far in the series with her long awaited final book due to come out this fall. It’s a story of a modern day woman who finds herself back in time where she falls in love with a Scottish Highlander. I just loved these books, although they’re a little more romantic than my present taste in books. The author really weaved a great story though. The first book in the series is “Outlander”

The Otherland Series by Tad Williams
This is more of a Sci-Fi/alternate reality type of a book. There are 4 LARGE books in the series, but they read quite fast and are very captivating. Best I remember it’s about living inside of an alternate reality that is man made (like a video game). The first book in the series is called City of Golden Shadow.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Ummmm… I wonder if I really need to explain this one. It’s an unconventional vampire love story. Just saying “Edward” really says it all. If you haven’t read it, you certainly should. You may become addicted like I am! Here’s a link to a letter that I wrote to the author. :)

The Flame and the Flower Kathleen Woodwiss
As a young adult, I was drawn to the sexy, historical romances. This one lives on as my favorite even if I don’t read much in that genre anymore. My copy of the book is so worn out that you’d immediately recognize it as a well loved book.

The Time Travelers Wife
Wonderful book and story. It’s a really quick read. I loved this book.

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurty
Although considered a “Western” it’s more about people and relationships and life on the American Frontier. I’m not a huge western fan but this one isn’t so much a western as it is a story of interesting people.

Pillars of the Earth
This book had me riveted through the entire story. It’s set back in time and is really a story of struggling to survive and is very inspiring. There were parts of this book that made me do the ugly cry, but I loved each and every page.

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
A classic! I LOVE this book. I’m sure you’ve all seen the movies, but the book is a must read.

5 people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom
This book made me really think. It’s a wonderful tale, told in a wonderful way. It tells a story on how small encounters with people can be pivotal moments in someones life.

The Black Stallion by Walter Farley
Oh how I loved this book when I was a tween and still later in life. Just such a magical story of a boy and a horse. Very simple and pure.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.
If someone were able to go back to 1979 to 1984 at Sunset Elementary and at Desert Sands Junior High you’d find my name in every entry of the library for this book. I had it checked out for years and read it over and over and over again. I doubt that I need to tell you that it’s a book about a boys dreams and how he made them come true. It’s about unselfish love and then how fate transforms dreams to make new ones.
