Sweet Music to my ears
Junior High is a whole new world for our kids. We send them off on that first day hoping they’ll be able to find their way around… knowing what a crazy new world they are entering. We worry that they’ll know anyone, that their friends from Elementary will be there and still be their friends. We wonder if we’ve taught them well enough to resist peer pressure and we panic knowing the shenanigans that we pulled back in Junior High and we pray that history will not repeat itself. Surely my young son doesn’t know that ditching school is an Option!
Then there are the new activities. Their world opens up with choices. Should I join band? Should I join Drama? My son went with Band. A whole new world of music is now open to him. It used to be you’d pick the instrument that appealed to you. Now they pick the instrument that the child seems best suited for. They picked the Trumpet for my son.
Ahhhhh sweet music. Maybe not so much at first, more like hair raising, ear shattering, earth moving racket that assaults your ears each time the trumpet gets practiced. Or the sputtering sounds as you imagine spit being flung onto your carpet from those lips that aren’t pursed quite right. You grit your teeth and smile with tears of pain in your eyes and proclaim “Oh, that’s So Nice!” And you wonder. IS all of this racket leading somewhere!?
And then along comes December and their first “Concert”. And you sit there with tears of pride (and no longer pain) in your eyes marvelling at your little adult and you hear…….. Music… Sweet Music to my ears.

Oh that is so sweet. I’ve heard a lot of moms say the same thing about the concerts. My dd wanted to do band, but her dance is to time consuming. I’ve heard some school pick the instruments, I almost wish they did for me. I wanted the flute, but I couldn’t hit the high notes. Another instrument probably would have been a better choice.
Glad the concert went well, thanks for the well wishes to my daughter!
OH that is wonderful!!!!!!! thanks for sharing!!
