The do’s and don’ts of parenting – Nancy Style – Part 2

Posted on May 02, 2009 by Nancy

Awhile back, I blogged about some parenting do’s and don’ts that I’d picked up along the way.  Some of my own lessons learned.  All of my parenting lessons have come at a price.  I thought I’d try to save a few people from my mistakes. I have a few more to add so here you go!

If you’re trying to catch a couple of zzz’s on the couch, do NOT do so when your adorably sweet 23 month old has a runny nose. He WILL sneak up to give you sweet kisses on the mouth….. I will not elaborate on this one, but think about it. You’ll understand!

DO put pants on your toddler at nap time even if YOU think he’d be more comfortable without them. Failure to follow this advice will result in poop becoming wall art and body paint.

Do not EVER mention after a most unfortunate surgery that your “butt hurts”. Did you know that your sympathetic preschooler, will have copycat symptoms in which he’ll proudly state loudly in a store, “Mommy, my butt hurts”….. oh boy does that get you some looks!

If you find an old sippy cup, say…. on the floor of the garage and it’s not one you remember filling with milk recently, do NOT open it!   Just toss it straight away as it WILL be extremely offensive and is not worth saving!  They’re cheap, save your nose (and stomach) and just throw it away immediately.

Do not allow a 2 year old (especially one named Nathan) to hold binoculars up to your eye sockets… unless you want bruised eye sockets, because he WILL try to shove them through straight to your brain.

Take it from me, Mom to 3 boys that parenting is not easy.  Laugh at me, laugh with me or just take notes and save yourself from follies that I have uncovered.  The longer, more original list can be found here.  Hope I’ve helped save your day.  :)

Those are some great words of wisdom!! Don’t think I ever want to witness poop wall art in THIS lifetime. LOL

Your tips are just precious. As one who has been there, done that, I really DO appreciate the wisdom you are passing on to others. I wish I had chronicled all the crazy stuff that happened with mine but your blog sure brings back memories of “poop” shampoos and facials. The most humbling thing I learned thru the years is to never, never, ever, say “Oh MY kid would never do that!” – oh yes they will, and sometimes they do worse! :)
